A brief introduction to the nature of DOP and DBP

DOP is dioctyl phthalate and DBP is dibutyl phthalate.

DBP is very volatile, plasticizing effect is not as good as DOP, of course not, at least not completely substitute DOP. Moreover, DBP has a high index of iso-oxides and is not suitable for medical use.
Phthalates (DOP)

Properties: generally colorless and transparent oily liquid, difficult to dissolve in water, soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol and ether. Mainly used as a polyvinyl chloride plasticizer.

It can be directly into humans and animals through breathing, diet and skin contact. Its toxicity decreases as the number of carbon atoms in the molecule increases.

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)

Nature: colorless, odorless and transparent.

Uses: plasticizer, non-toxic. It is mainly used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride. Compared with DOP, DBP is easy to migrate and is often used in combination with DOP to reduce the added cost of plasticizer.
