The faucet leaks, don’t worry about it for three minutes.

Many people will have dripping and leaking water in their homes. Most people don't care much at first. It is not a big deal to feel that one or two drops of water are missing. But in fact, this has undoubtedly caused a lot of water waste. I found that the faucet in my house leaked. I should find the reason in the first place. If it is not a big problem, I can solve it myself. Below, Xiaobian will introduce you to several solutions for water leakage.

First, the common three kinds of water leakage conditions and causes analysis

1. Reasons for water leakage at the water outlet

That is due to the wear of the shaft gasket in the faucet. Use pliers to loosen and remove the gland, remove the shaft gasket with a clip, and replace it with a new one.

2. Causes of water leakage in the lower part of the faucet

That is caused by the wear of the triangular seal inside the gland. You can loosen the screw to remove the hoe, then loosen the gland, then take out the gland inside the gland seal store and replace it with a new one.

3. Leakage at the joint

Roughly the cap nut is loose, you can retighten the cap nut or replace it with a new U-ring.

Second, the solution to the leakage of different faucets

1. Push-type faucet leaks

Preparation tools: screwdriver, penetrating lubricant, pliers or adjustable wrench and the mat to be replaced.

Faucet repair steps:

Step 1: Close the inlet valve. Remove the small screws on or behind the faucet handle to remove the handle that is attached to the faucet body. Some screws are hidden under metal buttons, plastic buttons or plastic sheets that are snapped or screwed into the handle. Just open the button and you will see the handle screw on the top.

Step 2: Remove the handle and look at the parts of the faucet. Use a large pliers or adjustable wrench to remove the packing nut, taking care not to leave scratches on the metal. Rotate the spool or shaft in the same direction as when you turned the faucet to unscrew them.

Step 3: Remove the screws that secure the washer. If necessary, use an infiltration lubricant to loosen the screws. Check the screws and spools and replace them if they are damaged.

Step 4: Replace the old gasket with a new one that is identical. New gaskets that are almost perfectly matched to the old gaskets generally allow the faucet to no longer drip. Also note that the old gasket is either beveled or flat and replaced with the same new gasket. A gasket designed only for cold water will swell significantly when hot water flows to block the water outlet, making the hot water flow slower. Some washers work in hot and cold water, but make sure that the gasket you bought for replacement is exactly the same.

Step 5: Secure the new gasket to the valve plug and reassemble the parts in the faucet. Rotate the spool clockwise. After the spool is in place, reinstall the packing nut. Be careful not to leave the wrench scratched on the metal.

Step 6: Reinstall the handle and replace the button or disc. Re-open the water supply and check for leaks.

2. The faucet leaks due to the sealing ring of the faucet

Drip occurs when the faucet is closed; water leakage occurs when there is water flowing through the faucet. If you see water coming out of the handle, your tap is leaking; the first thing to do is to make sure the fill nut of the tap is tight, but be careful not to scratch the nut with a pliers or wrench.

Tools: Adjustable wrench, replacement faucet seal, Vaseline.

If you find that the cause of the leak is not that the nut is loose, then you need to replace the seal. The sealing ring of the faucet may be a tight sealing ring composed of one or more O-shaped rubber rings, or something like a string or a soft metal wire wound around the valve core under the packing nut. When replacing the faucet seal, follow these steps:

Step 1: Turn off the water supply and remove the faucet handle.

Step 2: Unscrew the packing nut and remove the nut and the old seal from the valve plug.

Step 3: Install a new seal. If you are using a linear sealing material, wrap it around the spool a few turns. If it is a sealing material such as a soft wire, it is only wrapped around the valve core.

Apply a thin layer of Vaseline oil to the threads of the spool and the threads of the packing nut before you reassemble the faucet.

3. Water leakage caused by the faucet seat

If you change the tap and the faucet is dripping, there may be a problem with the faucet seat. A damaged gasket may cause the faucet seat to become rough due to metal spool wear, or the deposition of chemicals in the water may form a residue that prevents the gasket from being fully compressed against the valve seat.

How to repair the broken faucet seat? Of course, you can replace the entire faucet. Another option is to only replace the faucet seat. If you have the right tool called a seat tension wrench, then removing the old seat is a simple matter. Insert the seat release wrench into the seat and pull it counterclockwise. Once you have removed the old seat, make sure that the new seat you bought is exactly the same as the original one. If the seat cannot be removed, insert a seat cover that slides into place on the old seat and provides a seal. Two types of seat roller compactors or sanders that can flatten the worn seat.

Another option is to use a seat roller or sander, a cheap tool that can re-flat the worn seat. Be careful not to use too much time or use too much force when using this tool, because the seat is made of soft metal, you can easily wear it too much.

When using the sander, first remove the faucet spool and insert the seat roller down into the seat in the faucet body. Rotate the tool a few times clockwise with moderate force. Then use a cloth to wipe the metal scrap off the valve seat.

4, the O-ring of the faucet will also cause the faucet to leak

The kitchen faucet has one or more O-rings to prevent water from escaping around the water outlet. If the O-ring is worn out, you will see water flowing out at the bottom of the water outlet each time you turn on the faucet.

Tools: adjustable wrench, hose joint tape, replacement O-shape.

Steps to replace the O-ring:

Step 1: Turn off the water supply, turn it counterclockwise and remove the threaded coupling nut that secures the water outlet. Be sure to wrap the nut with tape to prevent it from being scratched by pliers or wrenches.

Step 2: After removing the coupling nut, lift the water outlet upwards and take it out of the water outlet seat. You can see these rings in the water outlet seat.

Step 3: Replace the problematic ring with a new ring of the same size. Reassemble the faucet.
